Tampa native graces the stage with Beyoncé during iconic Coachella performance

The West Tampa native is one of several other HBCU band members selected to perform in LA with Beyoncé.

TAMPA, Fla. — Lomario Marchman is currently pursuing his dreams in Los Angeles.

Before moving, he was a member of the band at Jefferson High School and got the opportunity to join the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University's acclaimed marching band, The Marching 100.

"My band director David Rosa from Jefferson High School always believed in me and really motivated me, he was big on academics, he pushed me to be the best musician," Marchman said.

After getting to appear in the film "Drumline: A New Beat," the call to perform with Beyoncé came. FAMU Alum Don. P Roberts is the founder of the traveling show "Drumline Live" and served as band director for Coachella the year Beyoncé performed.

"When I got the call, I immediately called my mom and she said oh my god!" Marchman said.

Lomario and dozens of student musicians from North Carolina A&T University, Tennessee State, FAMU, Grambling University and other historically black colleges and universities were selected and flown to Los Angeles to perform.

"You know, Beyonce never went to college, so for her to highlight HBCU bands like that it really shows her humanity," Marchman said.

Lomario hopes to return to Tampa Bay one day and open his own dance school for kids.

"I haven't been back home in a while, since moving out to LA. I miss friends and family, everyone was so happy to see me perform with Beyonce. I'll always love Tampa Bay and hope to grow in my career and go back and give back to where it all started," Marchman said.
