MIAMI — Ultra Music Festival is looking for a new home.
The festival’s organizers released a statement Wednesday on Twitter that says, in part, “After listening to feedback from many of you (including over 20,000 fans who took our post-event survey), it is clear that the festival experience on Virginia Key was simply not good enough.”
Ultra has terminated its license with the city of Miami and is finding a new location in South Florida.
The festival’s organizers have not announced the new location as of Thursday morning.
“We have been approached by many interested parties over the years with offers to host the festival at some very unique and impressive locales,” the organizers said. “One of these, however, has shined far above the others, and we look forward to making our home there for many years to come.”
In March, the 21st annual Ultra Music Festival moved to Virginia Key for the first time in its history. Ultra had its share of challenges at a new venue, including a fire, tens of thousands of festivalgoers walking about three miles on a highway to get back to downtown Miami and a 30-minute walk separating some of the festival’s stages.
Ultra has been held at:
- Miami Beach: 1999-2000
- Bayfront Park: 2001-2005
- Bicentennial Park: 2006-2011
- Bayfront Park: 2012-2018
- Virginia Key: 2019
