MIAMI – Ultra Music Festival has a new home for the first time in seven years.

Virginia Key will host the 21st annual electronic dance music festival on March 29-31, 2019.

On Thursday, Miami city commissioners voted 4-1 in favor of the relocation.

Commissioners Willy Gort, Joe Carollo, Manolo Reyes and Keon Hardemon voted for it. Commissioner Ken Russell was the dissenting vote.

Virginia Key will host the three-day event at two locations: in the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and in the park outside the Miami Marine Stadium.

"The new venue will allow the festival to evolve into its new, larger home, ultimately creating a more enjoyable experience for all festival attendees," festival organizers said in a news release. "We look forward to a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with our partners at the city of Miami and Historic Virginia Key Beach Park as we commemorate keeping Ultra in the city of Miami."

Ultra replaces the 2019 Rapture Electronic Music Festival, which was scheduled in Virginia Key for the same weekend.

Commissioners unanimously rejected a deal in September to keep Ultra in downtown Miami's Bayfront Park.

It is not clear if Ultra will remain in Virginia Key beyond 2019.

  • Miami Beach: 1999-2000
  • Bayfront Park: 2001-2005
  • Bicentennial Park: 2006-2011
  • Bayfront Park: 2012-2018
  • Virginia Key: 2019-?
