TAMPA, Fla. — Every dynamic duo needs a catchy nickname. Julie and Amelie Clarke’s kind of happened by accident.
“We’re like, ‘We’re the Bread Fairies!’” Julie joked.
The mother-daughter team has settled on a good name that fits their latest mission. They have spent the past two weeks baking and delivering fresh bread to unsuspecting neighbors.
“Hey Ms. Jennifer,” Amelie said in a short video destined to be texted to a friend. “Get somebody to check your front porch. I think the Bread Fairies left you something.”
Each drop-off is somewhat covert. Julie drives up to the house, Amelie hops out with a fresh loaf of sourdough and rushes the package to the porch. The duo speeds away and delivers a text message alerting their friends of their baked goodies waiting outside.
It’s covert and creative.
“They’ll keep me posted on when they’re eating the bread and how much they enjoyed it,” said Julie with a smile. “Man, that makes you feel good, that they’re happy and you can make them happy by just dropping off a loaf of bread on their door and running away.”
Amelie has created a fairy logo card that is included with each bread item.
The sneaky deliveries are just another way the duo bonds. Julie has written lunch notes to her daughter for years. This new tradition has given them something special to do for others in a time of social distancing.
“Anybody can do it, remarked Julie. “The funny thing is that it’s something really simple that people really appreciate and when people appreciate something you want to do more.”
