Thousands of barbecue fans are set to take over Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on Saturday, November 8, 2014 (2-10 p.m.), for the fourth annual Tampa Pig Jig, presented by Dex Imaging and USAmeriBank. The family-friendly event will include a barbecue competition with local celebrity judges, live music, games, a silent auction, delicious food and drinks. The Tampa Pig Jig, which is 100 percent volunteer-run, donates all proceeds from the event to NephCure Kidney International, the only non-profit organization committed to finding a cure for the debilitating kidney disease, FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis).

While more than 35 hopeful barbecue teams will be on site before the sun rises readying their prize-winning meats, the Tampa Pig Jig will open to the public at 2 p.m. with live music playing until the bitter end at 10 p.m. The barbecue competition will be judged by a panel of local celebrities. Winners will be announced at 6 p.m. and prizes will be awarded to the best brisket, butt, ribs and wild card entries, and one overall "Grand Champion."

This year's Tampa Pig Jig music lineup features Tampa-native, Allen Hunt; Forrest Hoffar; Mark Bryan; Edwin McCain and headliner, Corey Smith. Additional family-friendly activities will include a corn hole competition, food trucks, mechanical bull, and much more.

"This is an exciting year for the Tampa Pig Jig as we settle in to a new location at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park," said Chris Whitney, Co-founder of the Tampa Pig Jig. "I don't think any of us could have imagined what the Pig Jig would become, but we are humbled by the support of the community and the unbelievable attendance that exceeds our expectations every single year."

The Tampa Pig Jig had its modest beginning in 2011 as a simple backyard barbecue started by a group of gentlemen who wanted to raise money for close friend and Tampa native, Will Wellman. Will was diagnosed with an aggressive form of FSGS which later led to kidney failure. Since then, The Tampa Pig Jig has grown to be one of the most well attended fundraisers in the city, raising more than $225,000 for NephCure Kidney International.

"Events like the Pig Jig are truly the lynchpin of our fundraising efforts," said Mark Stone, CEO of Nephcure Kidney International. "The funds we receive from an event like this go directly towards finding a cure for FSGS, so there is a real opportunity for sponsors and attendees to make a tangible difference in the lives of those suffering from this disease."

General Admission tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door; children under the age of 12 are free. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $100 and include entry into the event,

plus admission into the Pig Jig BBQ Pit Party Area where patrons will enjoy complimentary food, beer and wine. For more information or to view sponsorship opportunities, become a volunteer or order tickets, please visit www.tampapigjig.com.
