10Community’s Kathryn Bursch and 10News General Manager Mike Rodriguez took a tour of the Ronald McDonald House in St. Petersburg this morning. They also used the visit to present the group with a $10,000 TEGNA Foundation grant.

Ronald McDonald House leaders are going to use the money to kick-start a new mobile food program. They’re creating a cart to bring snacks and sandwiches to the parents of children in the hospital who want to stay at their bedside.

“There’s a huge need,” explained Ronald McDonald House Executive Director Lisa Suprenand. “I don't know about you, but if my kid were in the hospital, I would want to be right there. And usually families come to us, but we've found that some families can't, so we're going to them.”

Plans for the mobile cart have been drawn up and stay tuned. We'll show you when the unit is rolling through hospital hallways and serving families early next year.
