COVID-19 and pets: What you need to know

Can our four-legged pets get the coronavirus? We talk to a veterinarian.

Can your pets contract COVID-19? Dr. John Howe is the current president of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He joined us to discuss the pandemic and its impact on pets. According to Dr. Howe, COVID-19 does not appear to be a virus that threatens pets. There’s been a very limited number of infections reported in companion animals, and most of those cases were either asymptomatic or minor respiratory issues. Dr. Howe went on to recommend that those ill with COVID-19 restrict contact with pets and other animals until more is known about the virus.
