LARGO, Fla. — The SPCA Tampa Bay wants to find homes for animals of all shapes and sizes. Today, I met Cedric, a pet rat.
I spoke with Sharon Sharp, who taught me all about owning a rat as a pet. They’re social creatures, so they like to be in pairs and need rat blocks for food, but also enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables.
Sharp says they’re terrific starter pets for a child at least 5 years old and they live about 3 years.
If you’re interested in adopting Cedric, one of his friends, or seeing the huge variety of animals they have at the shelter, visit them in Largo.
