HIGHLAND, Calif.— A World War II veteran’s daughter is reaching out in hopes of making her dad’s 96th birthday a little better.

Duane Sherman loves receiving mail, his daughter Sue Morse told CBSLA. They reported that Sherman didn't really feel like celebrating his Dec. 30 birthday, but his daughter Sue Morse took to Facebook to ask people to send him a birthday card.

“I wanted him to feel special on his birthday,” Morse told CBSLA.

She told CBSLA her dad isn’t just special to her, but to the United States of America. Sherman is a Navy veteran who earned a Purple Heart for a mission he survived in 1944.

Morse said this was one way to say “thank you” for his service.

Cards can be sent to:

Duane Sherman or Sue Morse

P.O. Box 794

Highland, CA 92346.
