Sting nabs more than a dozen people for unlicensed contracting

The operation focused on inviting suspects to a home and attempting to solicit them to contract a job they were not qualified for.

More than a dozen people have been arrested and charged with unlicensed contracting in Pasco County.

The suspects advertised across social media saying they could do the work on people’s homes even though they were not anywhere near qualified to.

An unlicensed contractor sting operation was conducted by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and Florida Department of Financial services in March.

The operation focused on inviting suspects to a home and attempting to solicit them to contract a job they were not qualified for.

The suspects met with undercover detectives and gave verbal quotes to complete the job, but the suspects failed to carry proper workers comp insurance.

People looking to hire a contractor can keep themselves safe from unlicensed contractors by checking a list the Better Business Bureau offers.
