SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Police Department announced Friday the arrest of 49 people accused of selling drugs.

Forty-five of the arrests were street-level drug dealers, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Those arrested had 1,012 prior felony charges resulting in 455 prior felony convictions.

"That means that before they were ever contacted by our officers and selling drugs, they'd already been charged with all of those felonies and convicted of felonies," said Sarasota Police Chief Bernadette DiPino.

The nine-month sting called "Operation Four Corners" started in April 2017 and ended in January 2018.

Undercover detectives made drug purchases from suspected street-level dealers as part of the investigation.

Sarasota police are still looking for four suspects.
