LAND O' LAKES, Fla. — The Pasco County Sheriff's Office is looking for a driver its deputies say tried to lure a girl into his car Monday morning outside a Land O' Lakes school.
The incident happened about 10:15 a.m. in the parking lot of Academy at the Lakes on Collier Parkway. Deputies say the girl, a high school junior, was walking toward the school when a man rolled down the window of a Toyota Corolla, waved the girl over and told her, "Come over here, get in the car."
The girl told him, "I have to be somewhere," and walked into the school's front office.
The vehicle left the scene.
The driver was described as a black, heavy-set man with dreadlocks. Investigators say he was wearing a black T-shirt.
According to law enforcement, surveillance video captured images of the car.
A school official called the incident "unusual" and said the school "has security measures in place and is constantly assessing and strengthening them."
Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-706-2488 and reference case number 19-025069.
