TAMPA, Fla. -- During a time when many thoughts are turning to charity, someone decided to steal from a charity.

Early Saturday, someone used a brick to smash the front door at Metropolitan Ministries' thrift store, 2101 N Florida Ave., and steal a cash register.

Devin Spireng used to shop there and hates to see it as a target.

"All these people, they probably had tons of donations, everything to give out for the holidays. And, now that’s probably going to put a little bit of a damper on it," he said.

Smashing the window, crawling through the door and snagging the cash register was all for nothing. There was no money inside. Now, police have somewhat a picture of who did it because of security cameras.

Justine Burk with Metropolitan Ministries said police are looking into it. And, while they want the person to be charged, they would even be willing to help him.

"I think we would all tell them come down to our outreach center and have a talk with one of our staff people, and if we can’t help you, we can find somebody who can," she said.

Spireng has a different message for him.

"They're gonna get you out there, they’re gonna find you."

The ministries said this was the second-such incident within the past six months or so.
