TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa police officers arrested a Ruskin man accused of stealing a car and running away from officers.

Andre Antonio Parker also is suspected of firing at officers early Friday at North 50th Street just north of East Hillsborough Avenue, but Tampa police still are investigating.

Officers were not hurt and did not fire at Parker.

Parker, 26, faces several charges including grand theft auto, aggravated fleeing to elude and leaving the scene of a crash. More charges are pending.

The pursuit began around 9:41 p.m. Thursday when officers saw a 2017 silver Ford Mustang with a black convertible top. The car matched the description of a car stolen in an armed carjacking on Sunday at Club Hush, Tampa police said.

Police officers pursued the car near East Osborne Avenue and North 22nd Street. Tampa police said the pursuit ended when the car crashed into a fence. Parker then ran on foot from the car.

Tampa police established a perimeter in the area, which included officers, a K-9, air service and assistance from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers found Parker east of where the car crashed. A K-9 named Xavier bit Parker on the left ankle before officers arrested him. First responders took Parker to an area hospital for treatment on his ankle.

Authorities have yet to book Parker into jail as of 8 a.m. Friday.

The investigation is ongoing.
