Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke hosts roundtable in Tampa

Democratic presidential hopeful, Beto O'Rourke met with a group of Florida veterans.

TAMPA, Fla. — The race to 2020 went through Tampa Monday morning.

Democratic presidential candidate, Beto O'Rourke met with a group of Florida veterans in his first visit to Tampa as a presidential candidate.

O'Rourke hosted a roundtable discussion consisting of 17 veterans and military family members. The group was encouraged to share their concerns and struggles.

O'Rourke, who has made veteran issues a key part of his platform told the group, "We have to do much more for the veterans that have served this country."

The discussion quickly turned emotional as a mother shared her story about her son who died after battling PTSD and addiction.

Other vets choked back tears, demanding less talk from politicians and more action.

O'Rourke is one of 25 democratic presidential candidates. He says his experience living on the U.S./Mexico border gives him invaluable insight.

"Immigrants make us stronger, more successful. El Paso, my hometown is one of the safest cities in America, not despite, but because it is a city of immigrants," O'Rourke told the media.
