Hillsborough County Schools to unveil new security system

The system allows students and teachers to call for help in an emergency situation.

Hillsborough County Public Schools is set to unveil a new security system Tuesday morning ahead of the start of the school year.

The district says the new CENTEGIX CrisisAlert system empowers teachers and staff members to call for help in an emergency. The system also allows students and staff member is notified of an emergency no matter where they are on campus, including classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, athletic fields or in the parking lot.

Superintendent Jeff Eakins, school board members and others will share the details of the new notification system at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The changes come after the February 2018 deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Hillsborough County Public Schools is the eighth-largest school system in the country with 206,841 students, according to the U.S. Education Department.
