Town & Country Elementary School is the 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida

Congratulations to all the staff and students whose STEM projects at Town & Country Elementary caught our eye!

We’re happy to announce Town & Country Elementary as our 10News School the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida.

It is part of Hillsborough County’s STEM Innovation Hub.

The idea is to create a foundation of STEM skills at the elementary school age that can be added to in middle school and continues through the student’s high school years. It’s one way to set the students up for success.

STEM is strong on this campus, and new this year are 1:1 devices. Every student has access to a Google Chrome Book to use in their classrooms, and many of the exercises traditionally found in a textbook are found interactively in the digital realm on the laptops.

The fifth graders started a STEM activity this week through a partnership with the Florida Aquarium. They are testing the water quality of one of the water resources near their school, collecting the data and monitoring it throughout the year.

In the spring, the students will also compare their collected data with the research collected at the other STEM Innovation Hub elementary schools and the middle school. One of the goals is to have the students predict what the future might hold if the water quality levels stay the same and what they could do as a community to change it.

With all this STEM and innovations, it’s easy to see why Town & Country Elementary is our 10News School of the Week powered by Duke Energy Florida.
