TAMPA-- Attorney General Pam Bondi signed an emergency order Tuesday outlawing U-47700 or "pinky" in Florida-- a synthetic drug that has contributed to several deaths.

The attorney general is warning of the lethal effects of the drug and say it is eight times more potent than morphine and 50 times more portent than heroin. The drug has been the cause of five deaths in Pinellas County.

The drug can be easily purchased online and comes in pill, powder and nasal spray forms.

Since taking office, Attorney General Bondi has worked with state lawmakers to outlaw 136 individual chemical compounds. In 2016, Attorney General Bondi put forth comprehensive legislation outlawing several categories of synthetic drugs in Florida. However, U-47700 is structurally different from any currently scheduled opioid, precluding it from regulation under current law.
