At least one person was injured when a building collapsed while being demolished Monday morning in Miami Beach, police confirm.

According to Miami Beach police, the building had a permit for demolition but not an implosion. CBS Miami reported that building officials had tried to ask for a permit for an implosion but were denied.

Police say it happened at 57th Street and Collins Avenue. They say the one known victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.

Officers are urging people to avoid the area.

The injured person, a worker who was hit by falling debris, was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
