MELBOURNE, Fla. -- A toddler will likely need plastic surgery after being attacked by a dog in Melbourne, Florida.

Alyssa, 3, was in the care of her aunt, who took her to a friend's house for a quick visit on Wednesday. While there, the family says a canine got out and attacked the child.

She was rushed into surgery to repair a fractured skull, but she still has nerve damage to her face and cannot close her eyes.

Her father, Anthony Bartolotta, told 10News Alyssa's ear will need to be totally reconstructed. So, the family has launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for her medical expenses.

According to Bartolotta, the dog was put down, and animal control officers in Brevard County launched an investigation.
