9-month-old baby dies after being left in a hot car in Spring Hill

A child has been taken to the hospital after reportedly being left in a hot vehicle.

UPDATE (Aug. 20, 2018): Once the Hernando County Sheriff's Office has completed its investigation, deputies will turn the case over to the Florida State Attorney's Office.

SPRING HILL, Fla. — Hernando County Sheriff’s Office officials said the 9-month-old boy that was left in a hot car has died.

Keyton O'Callaghan was transported to Oak Hill Hospital on Friday morning after Hernando County deputies and rescue workers say the child was left in a vehicle in the 12000 block of Elgin Boulevard.

Deputies said the child's father was working overnight and when he got home Friday morning he found the child in the mother's vehicle. He called 911 and began performing CPR until medics arrived.

First responders said the child's condition was critical when he was transported to the hospital but later died.

It is unknown how long the boy was in the car.

Deputies said they were speaking with the boy's mother.
