BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Hernando County Fire Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol say a car crashed into the back of a school bus Thursday morning on Cortez Boulevard.
Officials say the crash happened near Thistlebrook Lane. The school district said the bus was stopped and picking up students.
Hernando County Fire Rescue said the bus was from D. S. Parrott Middle School with about 35 students onboard. Crews say the car went underneath the bus.
Fire Rescue said the students and the bus driver were not injured. The school district said some of the students were picked up by parents and others were taken to school on another bus.
The driver of the other vehicle had to be extricated from underneath the bus and taken to the hospital as a trauma alert.
The crash briefly closed Cortez Boulevard, but all lanes were reopened at 9:46 a.m. Thursday.
