The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said goodbye to one of its K-9s.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis said K-9 Valor became ill while working last week and died Friday.

K-9 Valor was taken to the University of Florida Small Animal Hospital in Gainesville for specialized testing and treatment after veterinarians in Hernando County checked him out.

Valor was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer of the blood and was euthanized with his partner, Deputy Jeff Andrews, by his side.
