Brooksville suspect in custody after shooting at deputies, barricading themselves inside home

Hernando County deputies were checking on an individual who they said was possibly considering self-harm.

UPDATE: The Hernando County Sheriff's Office reported the situation was resolved peacefully after a SWAT team entered the home around 7 a.m.

The suspect who reportedly shot at deputies is in custody.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- Hernando County deputies reported that an individual has barricaded themselves inside a home on Cappleman Loop after firing shots at them.

Deputies said they were performing a Well Being check on the person around 3 a.m. Sunday. They said the individual was possibly considering self-harm.

When they arrived, they tried to talk to the person at the front door but that person fired shots in their direction. No deputies were hit or injured.

Deputies say they retreated and the individual is now barricaded inside the home.
