A Hillsborough deputy's car was hit early Friday morning by an impaired driver.

Just before 1 a.m. on April 15, Deputy Craig Lariz was conducting a traffic stop on SR 574 just east of Falkenburg Road. His emergency lights were activated and he was in his vehicle when a Dodge Journey traveling westbound on SR574 struck the left rear of Deputy Lariz's Tahoe.

The impact caused the Dodge Journey to roll over and come to final rest on SR574. Shelby exhibited signs of impairment, admitted to drug use and blood was taken pursuant to consent.

The stopped vehicle nor the occupant were struck or injured as a result of the crash.

K9 Deputy Lariz was treated and released for his injuries. Shelby was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
