TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa Fire Rescue firefighter was arrested for soliciting sexual acts, all while he was in uniform, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said Brian Hartzler, 46, was one of four men arrested Wednesday during an operation targeting people seeking the services of a prostitute in the University Community area of Tampa.
"Today's arrests were just one prong in a multi-faceted approach at combating
human trafficking," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "By attacking prostitution
head on, we are trying to take away the financial incentive behind trafficking
and hopefully, it sends a message to others that this won't be tolerated in
Hartzler faces a charge of soliciting another to commit prostitution.
A Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman said Hartzler has been suspended and released the following statement:
"Brian Hartzler has been summarily suspended from Tampa Fire Rescue while the charges against him are being investigated. Further inquiries about activities related to those charges should be directed to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office."
