The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has found the car wanted in connection with a deadly hit-and-run Saturday night in Plant City

At approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday, the car was found by patrol deputies within a mile of the crime scene.

The driver says he was not involved in the crash.

The car is being processed by crime scene investigators.

"I am very proud of the hardworking patrol deputies who worked diligently throughout the night to quickly locate this vehicle of interest. This was a very difficult investigation for everyone involved. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the young victim, especially the child's mother who is recovering from her own injuries sustained in this crash" said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

In a news release, the sheriff's office stated at this time, no one is facing charges, so the identity of the driver in the vehicle of interest will not be released.

The child was walking with their mother on Rogers Road around 9:30 p.m. Saturday when a car hit them both, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The driver did not stop.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they immediately performed CPR and had the child taken to Tampa General Hospital by helicopter. The 5-year-old died at the hospital.

The mother is also hurt but expected to survive, deputies say.
