TAMPA, Fla. — Rene Hammond was 18 years old when she and her family were sent to a concentration camp.
She escaped and survived.
Hammond was one of 60 survivors to gather for a pre-Passover seder at Congregation Schaarai Zedek in South Tampa. It was hosted by Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services.
The organization provides support so these survivors can live in their own homes.
The Holocaust survivor program director says nursing homes or other facilities can be triggers reminding them of the concentration camps they survived.
