Motorcyclist dies in crash; other driver charged with DUI manslaughter, troopers say

PALMETTO, Fla. — An alleged drunken driver pulled out in front of a motorcyclist. causing a fatal crash in Manatee County on Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a report. Jose Antonio Colon Vega, 47, of Palmetto, was driving a 2002 Dodge 1500 west on County Road 675 at the intersection with US 301.

Meanwhile, a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by a 54-year-old Palmetto man was approaching the intersection with CR675. The Dodge turned left in front of the motorcycle, which crashed into the truck's driver's side door.

The motorcyclist, whose name is being withheld because next of kin has not been notified, died at the scene. Vega was not hurt, troopers said.

Vega faces charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI property damage and violation of right of way.
