The National Weather Service has warned the public of red tide for Sarasota County.

The NWS issued its beach hazards statement Tuesday night and it remains in effect through Thursday night.

Red tide has already caused fish kills along the coast of Sarasota County, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Anyone with respiratory conditions such as asthma, emphysema and other pulmonary diseases could be more sensitive. They are advised to stay away.

Red tide can be harmful to people and animals.

Symptoms include coughing, sneezing and tearing eyes.
