ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man crossing the street was hit by a car in the downtown area, according to St. Petersburg police.
The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday on 4th Street South near 3rd Avenue South.
A 34-year-old man was crossing 4th Street at midblock when he was hit by a Chevrolet Impala heading south, police say. The driver stopped and is cooperating with investigators.
The pedestrian received life-threatening injuries.
Police closed 4th Street between 2nd and 3rd avenues during their investigation. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
