An 11-foot gator broke into a Clearwater home Thursday night, the city said. The gator got into the home through some low windows in the kitchen, according to a tweet.

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A Clearwater police officer is helping raise funds for a woman after an alligator burst into her home earlier this year.

Mary Wischhusen found the large gator lurking in her kitchen at about 3:30 a.m. the morning of May 31.

Clearwater police officer Brad Allen helped start a GoFundMe account to try to raise $1,500. The funds will help Wischhusen cover the costs of the gator’s damage, according to Clearwater police spokesperson Michael Walek.

“Mary was denied an insurance claim on the damage and does not have the money to fix all the damage,” the GoFundMe account said. “I am hoping to raise enough money to help fix her damages.”

The account states the gator broke two windows, a kitchen table, chairs, a baker’s rack with a couple of bottles of wine and made a few dents in the drywall.

Officers had to call two separate trappers to remove the gator from Wischhusen's kitchen.

It took a team of 12 people several hours to get the gator back out of the window it entered.

There were no injuries, according to the city and law enforcement.
