ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Thanks to a charitable donation, K-9 Ruger is equipped with a bullet and stab protective vest.

The charitable donation came from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and was sponsored anonymously. The vest is embroidered with the statement "Honoring those who served and sacrificed."

The donation to provide a protective vest for a law enforcement K-9 is $950, and each vest is valued between $1,744 and $2,283. They each have a five-year warrant and an average weight of 4-5 pounds.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is based in East Taunton, Mass. and is dedicated to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs and related agencies.

Since the company's inception in 2009, it has provided more than 3,000 protective vests around 50 states through private and corporate donations.
