ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department says a woman driving Sunday afternoon on 1st Avenue North has died after crashing into a tractor-trailer.

According to a press release, just before noon, the tractor-trailer was stopped in a northbound "curb lane" of the roadway to make a delivery when the accident occurred.

"The driver had just entered the cab, after picking up his reflective triangles and was getting ready to start the truck and pull away," the police department wrote.

Officers add that the tractor-trailer had its emergency flashers on when the woman driving a 2021 Nissan crashed into the back of it for unknown reasons.

According to the police department, the woman's car slid under the tractor-trailer, nearly reaching its rear axle.

The woman was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where police say she later died.
