Lakeland apartment fire displaces nearly two dozen residents

The Lakeland Fire Department reports no one is hurt.

LAKELAND, Fla. — Residents at a Lakeland apartment building have been displaced as a fire burned through its roof.

Crews were called Monday evening to the Arbor Glen Apartments, located at 4950 Deep Forest Court, on a report of a fire in the attic.

The Lakeland Fire Department says the fire had been ongoing for hours, with it contained just after 9 p.m. Polk County Fire Rescue was called in to provide backup in the city.

No one has been reported hurt as firefighters worked evacuate all units. Firefighters are going back into the building to look for pets in each of the 24 units.

People had been asked to stay away from the area because of heavy smoke.

Fire investigators say a misplaced screw or name through electrical wiring caused the wiring to degrade over time and led to the fire. Read more about the cause by clicking here.
