WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Winter Haven police say they are investigating a "suspicious incident" involving a 9-year-old girl who says a stranger grabbed her by the elbow while she walked to a friend's house.

The child told investigators it happened around 5:10 p.m. Friday while she was allegedly walking north on Edwin Street NE in Winter Haven.

The girl claims a car pulled up behind her, then the driver grabbed her -- but she got away and ran to the friend's house.

According to detectives, the child described the stranger as a black man, 30-40 years old, wearing a blue shirt with white and orange stripes. The girl alleges the man didn't say anything. She told investigators he was driving a silver or light blue, newer model small car.

Anyone who was in the Edwin Street area Friday evening, or might have more information about the alleged situation, should call Detective Jill Dentel at 863-291-5701.

Last week, Pasco County deputies said a 10-year-old girl's story about a man trying to persuade her to get into his car was untrue.
