LAKELAND, Fla. — It's believed a motorcyclist was speeding just before a deadly crash into a parked SUV.
Travis Lester, 33, was heading east Saturday on Jungle Street near Combee Road when he hit the brakes and caused a skid lasting some 300 feet, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The rider couldn't stop his bike in time and crashed into a parked Dodge Nitro. Deputies say the impact was hard enough that the SUV moved about 3 feet.
Lester, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike.
He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation continues.
