Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies are thanking community donors who equipped their K-9 unit with ballistic vests.

They hosted a meet-and-greet between the K-9 handlers, their dogs and the donors on Wednesday.

The Sarasota County K-9 Unit has six teams -- four if which are cross-trained in multiple specialties, including narcotics, explosives and human searches. Every team gets 600 hours of training before going into service. The teams are certified annually.
