Three acres of waterfront property is for sale in a historic waterfront neighborhood in Sarasota.

County leaders are considering using more than $2.5 million dollars from the Neighborhood Parkland Acquisition Program to buy it, restore a couple of homes and create a public park at 1710 Vamo Drive along Sarasota Bay.

The neighborhood that has been around since the early 1900's might get a major facelift. The property owner was a 104-year-old woman's who recently died. Her family is listing the property which could be sold to the county or a developer.

A developer would like to build 15 homes on the property.

If you're interested in learning more about this proposed land purchase, the county is hosting an open house Wednesday night at 6 pm at Grace Church to gauge interest in community support.

The money would come from the Neighborhood Parkland Acquisition Program.

In 2005, Sarasota County voted this tax (with an 80 percent margin) to increase the property tax to purchase property along the water for public access.

$2,695,000.00 is the listing price.
