SILVER ALERT: Deputies find Sarasota man with degenerative brain disease

William Bruce Garrett has been found safe.

UPDATE: Less than 15 minutes after the Silver Alert was issued, William Garrett was found safe in Pasco County. The alert has been canceled.

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. -- A Silver Alert has been issued for a 79-year-old Sarasota man who went missing Thursday morning.

William Bruce Garrett was last seen on Picasso Drive near the intersection with Bayshore Road in Nokomis, Florida.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said he was on his way to the Publix located at US-41 and Laurel Road. He was driving a gray 2019 Jeep Cherokee with Florida license plate JYEF86.

Garrett stands 6 feet tall and weighs 230 pounds. He has white hair and blue eyes. He was last known to be wearing a white T-shirt with brown shorts and tan Crocs.

According to authorities, he has two small scars on his forehead and one on his left knee.

Investigators say he suffers from a degenerative brain disease and diabetes.
