SARASOTA, Fla. — Two elderly people were found dead Friday inside a Sarasota County home with elevated levels of carbon monoxide.
Emergency crews with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and Sarasota County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene, which is located on Bouchard Circle in Sarasota.
Inside they found the bodies of James Livingston, 88, and Sharon Livingston, 81.
Firefighters ventilated the structure, and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.
Authorities have not yet said what may have caused the situation, but they said it appears to be accidental.
Even though investigators are not sure if a keyless ignition vehicle may have been responsible, fire officials still took the opportunity Friday to remind people to shut off their vehicles and install carbon monoxide detectors in their homes. The warning comes after 10Investigates exposed how keyless ignitions were linked to carbon monoxide deaths.
