School bus crashes in Lakeland with 43 children on board

It happened on Combee Road North and Highway Road 92.

LAKELAND, Fla. – Two children were taken to the hospital after a school bus and car collided Monday morning in Polk County.

It happened near Combee Road North and State Road 92 in Lakeland.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

A Polk County Fire Rescue official said the kids were taken to the hospital, as a precautionary measure, at the request of their parents. Both were conscious when they were transported.

The people inside the car are doing fine and refused to be taken to the hospital, authorities said.

The bus had a total of 43 kids on board, rescue officials say. A Polk County school official said they were headed to Crystal Lake Middle School.

First responders say the scene has been cleared.
