UPDATE: The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA announced Tampa Bay had won the Treadmill Tuesday Tie-Breaker, a 3rd annual competition with the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast.

In total, 1,979 Tampa Bay residents completed 4,185.95 miles during the 12-hour event, surpassing the First Coast by about 1,385.15 miles.

Way to go, Tampa Bay!

The Tampa Metropolitan YMCAs are encouraging residents to take part in its third annual Treadmill Tuesday challenge against its Jacksonville counterparts.

The goal is to see which area can log the most miles. Tuesday's competition goes from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Last year, Tampa beat Jacksonville 3,357 miles to 3,337 miles.

Those unable to make it to the YMCA, can take a photo of the miles they’ve run and upload it to Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #TreadmillTuesday. Participants must also tag @TampaYMCA and only 30 minutes of each workout will count.

In honor of Diabetes Alert Day, certified Tampa YMCA trainers will offer free diabetes risk assessments to Treadmill Tuesday participants and those who qualify will be entered to win a free Y Diabetes Prevention Program class.
