Two dozen of the most unusual airline routes to Europe
Fancy a flight from St. Louis to Reykjavik? Maybe you’d like a non-stop flight from Providence to Cork? Or how about one from Fairbanks to Frankfurt or from Fort Myers to Dusseldorf?
Sure, international flight schedules from the U.S. are packed with non-stop options like New York-London or Chicago-Frankfurt. But it’s the dozens of relatively obscure city-pairs that really spice up the USA’s international flight schedules to Europe.
The number of unusual routes has spiked in recent years. That's been driven in large part by a new breed of trans-Atlantic low-cost carriers that have added European options from places like Pittsburgh, Oakland and Newburgh, N.Y.
While the proliferation of such routes may have been driven by these upstart carriers, traditional airlines also have gotten in on the act too.

Some made the list because they are truly obscure. Others are less obscure, but have been included for noteworthy characteristic that helps them stand out from the typical offerings. Yet another set of routes has been included not because the city-pairs are unusual, but because of the unexpected airlines flying them.
