Whitaker Weinburger is almost four years old and has a lot of energy. He loves to play tag, football and he loves his favorite toy, Bumblebee the Transformer.
Bumblebee transforms into a yellow car, something that Whitaker has become infatuated with.
"He will spot a bumblee bee, he's like a hawk eye for them and he yells bumblebee! He just loves them, he just loves yellow cars. I don't know where it came from, but it makes him happy so our whole family just rolls with it," said his mom, Erin Weinburger.
Even though he's young, Whitaker has been through a lot. He was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma at just a year old. After years of treatment, six rounds of chemo and 20 rounds of radiation, Whitaker's scans have come back clear.
On September 11, he will turn four years old. Since it's his first birthday he will actually be healthy enough to enjoy, his family wanted to make it special. His mother put out a call on social media, asking anyone with a yellow car to park it on their street to surprise her son. She wants a sea of yellow cars outside their home as they walk little Whitaker to school on his birthday.
"He's been talking about his birthday since Christmas, and he keeps saying i want a lot of people, a lot of people, and Transformers," said Erin Weinburger.
Dozens of people have already agreed to come to surprise Whitaker. His mom says she is overwhelmed with the support already, but hopes even more people will show up for her son.
How to help:
The Alexandria Sheriff's Office is helping with traffic control. They are asking anyone with a yellow car who is interested to come to the Burke & Herbert Bank parking lot, located at 1705 Fern Street in Alexandria at 6:30 a.m. on September 11. Sheriff's deputies will then direct people to park along Whitaker's route to school.
