Former Baylor frat president accused of rape gets probation, no jail time

Jacob Anderson has dodged prison time as part of a plea agreement in Texas.

WACO, Texas -- A former Central Texas fraternity president will only serve probation after allegedly drugging and raping a fellow Baylor University student in February 2016.

On Monday, a judge accepted a plea deal that allowed Jacob Anderson, 23, to plead "no contest" to a lesser charge of unlawful restraint in exchange for prosecutors dismissing sexual assault charges.

The result? He was sentenced to three years probation, told to pay a $400 fine and ordered to attend mandatory counseling sessions. That's a far cry from the 20 years in prison he could have faced. Plus, Anderson doesn't have to register as a sex offender.

The alleged victim told investigators Anderson raped her behind a barn area and repeatedly assaulted her until she blacked out, according to our sister-station in Waco.

Critics of the plea agreement had signed an online petition demanding a tougher punishment for Anderson who was head of Baylor's Phi Delta Theta frat at the time of the alleged assault. The petition has since been closed.

Members of the McLennan County District Attorney's Office said they stand behind the plea deal and believe it was the best result possible outcome given the available evidence.

According to KCEN-TV, Anderson's family and supporters confronted members of the media as they left the courtroom. You can watch footage of the confrontation below. Having trouble viewing it? Click here.
