GREATER MANCHESTER, UK — A mother dog was wounded trying to defend her puppies as they were being stolen, said police in Greater Manchester, England.
Saturday morning, two men armed with machetes followed a man into an apartment and attacked him.
After taking cash, keys and a phone, they found a litter of six 5-week-old staff cross puppies and their mother, Zena. The men started picking up the puppies and shoving them in bags.
When Zena tried to defend her pups, she was hit in the head with a machete by one of the men, causing a deep cut. The men then ran away.
The next day, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. The puppies were recovered and reunited with their mother.
“The puppies are all safe and well, and have been reunited with their mother, Zena, who was absolutely delighted to see them," said Detective Constable Nick Kershaw of GMP’s City of Manchester Division.
The search continues for the other attacker.
