Schools are always looking for new ways to communicate with parents because trying to send important information home with a student isn't always the best way to make sure a message is delivered.

One place schools know many parents are looking is Facebook.  While many districts and even individual schools have Facebook pages, the Pinellas County School District is is going one step further with a page in Spanish. So far, Pinellas County is the only district in the Tampa Bay area to have a Facebook page in a language other than English.

The page, Pinellas County Schools En Espanol, went live in October. Already, several hundred people like it and are using it for information.

ESOL Specialist Natasa Karac says they hope it continues to grow and start conversations on how they can provide better services for their Hispanic families.

"Our Facebook page echoes the district's Facebook page, so they are getting the information that's going out to the entire district to all of our families," Karack said. "And in addition to that, we have some information that targeted to the Spanish speaking community such as educational workshops for example."
