RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — A doctor at a VA medical center in Palm Beach County was shot by a patient who is a double amputee, officials said.
CBS12 is reporting the doctor was shot in the neck. Another staff member was grazed by a bullet.
A suspect, a 59-year-old man in a wheelchair, was in custody. CBS12 reported authorities say he may be a homeless veteran.
Donna Katen-Bahensky, director of West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, told CBS12:
An incident has occurred this evening at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center. There is no danger to patients or staff at this time and the area has been secured. We are working with local law enforcement and the investigation remains ongoing.
The FBI is leading the investigation.
