NAPLES, Fla — Law enforcement officers in southwest Florida went beyond the call of duty to help give a cancer patient’s yard a little TLC.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook that one of its corporals took flowers to a family friend who is battling an aggressive form of cancer. He said, when he left, he felt like he could do more to raise her spirits.

He mentioned, to a coworker, that he wanted to spruce up her yard because he knows one of her favorite pastimes is sitting in her yard, enjoying nature.

By Saturday the word had gotten around, and 15 volunteers -- nine from the sheriff’s office -- showed up and got to work on her yard.

The sheriff’s office said the volunteers spent around four hours pressure washing her property and turning her yard into a “virtual oasis.”
